We have just added numerous old documents concerning the origins of the Rugglestone Inn to the History Group Archive.
October 30th 2017: Items relating to the Rugglestone Inn have been added to the Search and Display page.
These items relate to the Rugglestone Inn and can be viewed by using the search term 'rugglestone' against the History Group archive, or via this link The new additions all have a catalogue number beginning with 'M', indicating they have been loaned to the History Group for the purposes of digitising.
We are finally starting to upload more items to the History Group Archive and the Main Parish Archive.
October 18th 2017: Further items have been added to the Search and Display page.
The first items to be uploaded in this phase are the pages from the Leusdon Burials Register from 1863-1918 (Catalogue Number C005).
As with the baptisms, all the names have been transcribed and the Burial Book pages scanned, so the burials are searchable in the same way as other items in the archive and will be picked up as part of the general search facilities, including name searches.
Another set of items from the History Group Archive are now live on the Search and Display page.
September 21st 2016: Further items can now be viewed on the Search and Display page.
These new items include various items relating to the sale and lease of the Wooder Estate, items concerning Leusdon School, items relating to the Widecombe Charities and various estate sales.
Sifting and sorting through the bundles of items that we are entrusted with is a time-consuming and often difficult task. All items have to be read, sorted and indexed before they can be scanned and catalogued. Then everything is carefully checked before being published, filed and/or returned to the owners.
A further set of items from the History Group Archive are now live on the Search and Display page.
April 25th 2016: Further items can now be viewed on the Search and Display page.
These new items include documents relating to the agreement between the tithe commissioners and the landowners regarding the tithe apportionments as well as some local estate sale documents, Widecombe Fair Programmes and other miscellaneous items.
